About

Spirit Ocean is an action platformer game with non-linear progression. Movement is fast, combat is simple but punishing, and deep exploration is required to proceed. Everything is hidden, from special items to entire areas.

You play as an anthropomorphic rabbit girl with a multitude of different weapons and abilities, given assignments by the last monolithic mega empire on Earth. You must help them create a better future for everyone. Mutant organisms are corrupting the main land, the infrastructure supporting their colonies is failing, and there is no sole director for free agents. The Executive Council wants you to prove your worth by completing their tasks.

Trek through dilapidated swamps and abandoned cities, explore sewer systems and ancient ruins, and prepare yourself to rid the environment of these invasive malignant organisms. Through this, you may prevent the world from being corrupted further, while uncovering the secret of the creatures from the Spirit Ocean.

What is in this demo?

A couple of levels, a speed trial map, and an early look at the enemies, abilities, items, and other collectables you can find throughout Spirit Ocean.

Everything shipped here is in a completely raw and unfinished state,  more updates are to come at a later date. You can join the Discord server to receive the latest news

First things first, the aesthetic is on point! Second, my GTX-670 is running at 25-30 FPS steady in bigger areas like the sewers or forest. 60FPS when at home base.

Oh, and the way health works confused me, as when I saw the HP, I expected it to dwindle instead of acting like a Paper Mario style health point.

Sewers: The sewers are a pretty good introduction to how exploration is rewarded. The environment interaction is also pretty fun.

Forest: Hoo boy. That tank in the beginning of the map? if it finds you (and it probably will), it'll lob grenade rounds your way until you get past the jumping puzzle, which is pretty interesting in execution minus getting hit with a series of lucky shots.

Then comes the blind forest part. Radar comes in clutch, but if you didn't know there would be enemies, prepare to fend them off if not beat them with the shotty because the rifle does jack to them besides stun.

Suggestions:
1. Limit the angle that the tank can shoot at so that you're safe when you're at the treetops.
2. I concur with Retsa that the ranged enemies don't really look for you, but I have been spotted once or twice in the sewers.
3. Have the shotgun use a more traditional walljump type detection for the secondary fire so you don't feel like you're trying to use a finnicky rocket jump.

The game has really cool vibes and world, i like the open ended areas and ways and navigation, has the potential to a lot of immersive sim gameplay and ways to overcome situations.

Here some feedback on things that could improve in the next version:
- Shooting is too simplistic and can be spammed infinitely without any drawback. I think it needs a reload mechanic. It could also benefit from some dispersion instead of the perfect accuracy it now has.
- Regular shooting enemies only react to your presence when in a really close range and can be killed from far away very easily.
- Never used the secondary melee ability, there are not situations that benefit from getting close and personal with enemies.
- Don't see any reason why the second jump is performed with the melee attack instead of the regular jump.
- Needs the mechanic to jump in water.
- Not a fan of the platforming on the second level.

Can't wait to see whats next in this dystopian post apocalyptic world!
